Smart Home Company Insteon Shuts Down: Why It Matters
Insteon Pulls the Plug Without Warning
Share This
Late last week, the connected lighting company Insteon suddenly shut down without warning its users.
Its array of smart light switches and other products lost access to the servers they rely on.
The company also deleted its user forum and leadership page from its website, leaving customers to wonder what had happened.
The company did not respond to a request for comment, but former CEO Rob Lilleness did mention in a LinkedIn post that he was no longer involved with the company.

Users were furious with the abrupt change and found themselves unable to control their home’s lights with the Insteon mobile app.
Some of the company’s smart switches currently still work as regular on-off switches, but many models are now bricked. Attempting to reset devices may cause them to become inoperable.

Motorized shades help you control the light that enters your home.
In addition to giving you a little bit of extra security while you're away from home, they can also prevent the sun from bleaching your furniture and art.
